ATTENTION

Hi! Welcome to our third session!

In this session, we introduced the basic concepts and mechanisms involved in attention. This presentation will cover some basic knowledge on attention, debunking myths, explaining theories, and proposing solutions in the process!

Disclaimer!

Please note that, many concepts discussed below are oversimplifications of the true workings of the brain. It is a good practice to not take anything for granted when learning neuroscience due to the subject's complex and obscure nature.

In this session, we’re going to talk about attention! More specifically, how the brain decides what to focus on and what to ignore. Attention might feel automatic, but it’s actually the result of several interacting brain systems working together.

Before diving into the science, it helps to think about our own experiences. Many people notice that once they start scrolling on apps like TikTok, it’s surprisingly hard to stop. At the same time, we often find that concentrating deeply on some tasks feels easy, while focusing on others feels almost impossible. These everyday experiences hint that attention is selective, limited, and strongly influenced by both the task and the stimulus.
