In this session, we’ll explore several mental disorders by asking why the brain behaves the way it does, rather than focusing only on surface-level symptoms. We’ll move from disorders involving memory loss, to those involving excessive memory, then to disorders of mood regulation, and finally to disorders of thought and behavioral control.
A key theme across all of these conditions is that they are not failures of character or willpower, but reflect changes in neural circuits, neurotransmitter balance, and brain connectivity. Understanding the brain mechanisms behind these disorders helps reduce stigma and allows us to think more critically about treatment and support.
